It's been a hectic day here at LIV. It began for me at 2:30 a.m. when I woke up with no heat, no hot water, no cable and no internet. I decided to walk the property. Half the lights were out in the hallways. The elevators were running with no lights inside. It was so cold, I had to remind myself to get my brass monkey in.
I went back to my apartment and crawled in bed with my electric blanket and Kindle. I read for a while, then dozed off. When I woke up, I had some heat, very tepid water, cable and Internet.
Around 11:00 a.m. I went to Camellia to deliver some packages and found a huge leak in the basement by the Six Seat Boutique (orange benches.) Around noon, the elevators went down. My friend had to climb five flights of stairs to get to her apartment.
Around 3:30 p.m. I got a call from a tenant that there was a huge leak in the Azalea basement. I ran down there, and it looked like Niagara Falls. I called the Courtesy Officer, and he got someone from Maintenance to get it cut off.
Then I went to take a shower, and no hot water. Discovered that half the Boxwood building (front side) has no heat or hot water. The courtyard side was ok. Then the fire alarms went off. Went downstairs and the sprinklers had gone off in Boxwood garage. Another flood. Then the fire department came; then maintenance was back. I had to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to my apartment because the Boxwood Elevators were shut down.
I recommend that everyone here get a small heater or electric blanket for the winter months. Of course, if the power goes out, you are SOL.
I would also caution everyone to be cautious when walking through the facility. The water from the leaks is freezing already and there are patches of ice everywhere. Be particularly careful when walking on leaves on the sidewalk. There is possibly ice underneath.
